1854 Reserve The Boss Edition is the second private-label bourbon release from Southern Specialty Spirits, building on the success of the Old Main Edition. Named after Wofford College's mascot, Boss the Terrier, this release raises the proof to 110 and adds additional barrel aging to unlock a deeper, more complex flavor profile. The Boss Edition demonstrates how organizations can evolve their custom bourbon brand over time, creating anticipation and repeat demand from their community. Developed by master blender Dixon Dedman and founder Garrett Steck, this single-barrel bourbon showcases the full potential of the private-label bourbon model.

Tasting Notes
At 110 proof, this is a bold yet balanced bourbon that will impress seasoned enthusiasts while remaining approachable for newcomers. At full proof, the nose opens with pecan praline, vanilla bean, and a touch of tobacco, while the palate delivers notes of vanilla, peach, and cinnamon with a smooth, satisfying mouthfeel. The finish lingers with peppery spice, caramelized sugar, and a touch of dry oak, offering just the right balance of sweetness and warmth.

Behind the Bottle
Dedman and Steck teamed up again to create a second release of 1854 Reserve. Named The Boss Edition as a nod to Wofford College's beloved mascot, Boss the Terrier, this release was designed to reward the community that made the first edition sell out. The increase in proof and additional time in the barrel unlocked newfound flavors not present in the original release. The Boss Edition proved that private-label bourbon is not a one-time project. It is a brand-building platform that organizations can return to year after year, creating limited releases that deepen loyalty and drive recurring revenue.

What People Are Saying
“Live down South and looking for a new wheated pour? You gotta try this one from 1854 Reserve. The Boss Edition comes in warm at 110 but drinks more like 90-95. Nice round flavor and no burn makes this a terrific tailgate pour at Gibbs Stadium before a Wofford Terriers football game. Happy to see this great bourbon from 1854 Reserve hitting the shelves. Always exciting to see Wofford alumni success too!”
“1854 Reserve Boss Edition is a great example of how an additional year (or so) and being full proof can bring out new characteristics in a mash bill. Boss Edition delivers on the sweetness of its predecessor, The Old Main Edition, but amps it up with some great fruit on the palate and a beautiful nose.”
